To a lot of people dancers dance to perform because they love it. well yes dancers dance because they love it, but there is a lot more to it than that!
The quote 'Dance to express not to impress' is one I love, because it is true. Me as a dancer and like lots of other dancers, dance to express themselves. To me dance has always been my way to express myself, and when I am frustrated, angry, annoyed, upset or even just when I'm feeling happy. Dance is my way of showing how I feel and letting out all those emotions.
That is one thing that is hard when been injured as a dancer. You get frustrated with the fact you can't dance and the injury, illness or whatever it is that has stopped you from dancing, and that makes you even more frustrated. When the thing you would normal use to let out that frustration and anger is the one thing you can't do! All you want to do is get up on your feet and dance, but you can't!
To me dance is an escape from the outside world. When I dance I can forget about everything else that is going on, I don't have to worry about anything, all I have to think about is the dance. I can just be me and not care about any other problems I have, I don't have to think about all the hospital stuff and medication. I can be me the person I want to be and no one can take that from me.
Then just like I said before about how life has it's way of creeping up on you, and throwing something at you. Now it's your body that wants to dance, which is now the one thing stopping you from doing that, and there is nothing you can do about it. Your body along with life's choice has made that decision for you, and all you can do is accept it. All that is left now is for you to fight back and get that right mind set, because once you have it in your mind of what you want to do, you will get there.
I am determined in my mind to get back on my feet, and with that determination and goal I will use all that built up frustration, and I know I will get there. It may take a little while and longer than I want but I will do it.
That is all you need to get through what life throws at you, a bit of determination and a goal to work towards, because without either of them you wont get there!
