On the 4th September i did the Race for life 2016 half Marathon, the day was great and a great atmosphere with everyone who took part and those who didn't supporting you.
It was my first every race and i know it was a big to jump right in with a half marathon but i don't regret it for one minute. It took me a good few days to actually think i'm proud of myself, to look back and think six years ago i was diagnosed with bone cancer, and a year ago i was diagnosed with a neurological condition and couldn't walk. So to think that i was able to complete the half marathon under four hours was great for me.
It was a great day and was lovely talking to everyone as you walked round, and my favourite part of the day was when i got to mile 10 and two of my friends were there to meet me, and they walked from mile 10 to the finish line at mile 13.1
What is lovely to see as you go round is reading everyone's backs, as you have a sign on your back saying who you are running for. People are doing it for family, friends, just for people who are fighting, lost their fight, or just for a cure to be found.
It is definitely a day to remember and i can't wait to do it again next year! I also raised money which goes to cancer research UK, and i have raised £640 which i couldn't be happier with. To think that money will be going to such a great place, and will help to find more treatments, and research into different cancers, and most of all some day finding a cure.
If you haven't done race for life before then i would definitely recommend it, and there are different races. There are the 5k and 10k get muddy race, the half marathon and full marathon.
